Reviews of Lessons With Erika
Student & Parent ReviewsErika is without a doubt the best teacher I've ever taken lessons from - and I've been playing the horn for nearly 40 years and have two degrees in music education. She can quickly identify issues and immediately present a clear solution that makes sense and is easy to understand. I truly enjoy every single lesson and consider this to be one of the best investments I've ever made. I can confidently say that whether you're a beginner, an advanced student such as myself, or anywhere in between, you'll be glad you chose her as your teacher. I certainly am.
--Rory, current student I highly recommend taking lessons with Mrs. Wilsen because of her ability to explain musical concepts quickly and clearly. Her practice plans are so well organized that we never waste a minute during lessons. When I transferred to a boarding school, Mrs. Wilsen’s online lessons provided a convenient and effective way to continue developing as a musician, and with her guidance I won the school's concerto competition. Thanks for all the help and support, Mrs. Wilsen! --Vincent, former student, Florida I started lessons with Erika summer of my 5th grade through high school. I enjoyed my lessons and had fun while challenged and stretched with new music and advance techniques. I will always be grateful to her for helping me to achieve my music goals at all levels. --Seena, former student, Palo Alto, CA Erika has the unique skill set to teach both children and adult learners. She teaches students by feedback on student homework performance at lessons, demonstration and by providing technical guidance. Erika is a wonderful teacher for those adults returning to playing the French horn after several years hiatus. Erika also helps to train students to deal with nerves in performance through her studio concerts by students which are really beneficial. --Maria, Ireland (current student) Erika has taught me for the past few years. I moved from a performing clarinetist to a beginner horn player, and the transition has been challenging, to say the least. I’m so grateful that I’ve had Erika to guide me along the way. Her practical knowledge and experience, teaching ability, encouragement, and her patience, have been invaluable. Because of her, I’m excited about my progress, and I want to work harder. --Marguerite, adult student in Washington Erika is a gifted French horn teacher and a loving caring person. We have been so fortunate that my son took lessons with her for 4 years until she had to move away. She was very well-respected and sought after in our community and she is missed tremendously. Erika is passionate about music. Her love for the art is evident in her teaching techniques. She is exceedingly patient with all students, and yet her loving and nurturing personality brings out the best in the students. She challenges her students to reach new heights without intimidation and the result is the love of playing French horn and enjoying the music. This is evident as many of her students have gone on to embark on successful careers in music or major in Horn performance in college. We are tremendously grateful to her for everything she has taught my son. --Rosa, mother of a former student Erika has had a major, positive impact on my son's life. When my son switched from trumpet to horn in sixth grade, Erika was recommended to us as a horn teacher. He loved going to his lessons and flourished as a horn player, winning auditions for All-State Band and local youth orchestras. When Erika moved away, his love for playing continued. He moved to another teacher and developed his talents to the point where he was accepted as a horn major at the USC Thornton School of Music. But he has decided to pursue chemistry and music at Stanford. Erika's caring musical guidance is in no small part responsible for my son's success. A couple of years ago a friend told me that her daughter played horn, but could not get lessons because they didn't have a way to get her to those lessons. When I heard of the situation, I recommended Erika's online lessons. My friend tells me that her daughter had a great experience with Erika online and improved tremendously as a player. --Greg W., father of a former student I played French horn for my four high school years, graduated in 1965, and stored my instrument in the closet. Although I enjoyed playing and music remained a passion, my life simply became too busy with new responsibilities and obligations to continue playing horn. When Covid 19 caused the 2020 Pandemic, I found myself self-reflecting with time on my hands and an opportunity to pursue the things that filled my heart and soul. Music fills my heart and soul! Could I learn to play my French horn fifty-four years after storing it in the closet? Could I even remember fingerings, restore my embouchure, or breath correctly and make a sound? I sought help on the internet and bumped into an instructor willing to teach via zoom. She even offered a free lesson! How could I lose! I connected immediately with Erika. She was kind, encouraging and assured me that she would help me reach my goal of playing for my own pleasure without any other aspiration. I quickly increased my playing range and played several pieces for my own enjoyment. I practice a couple of hours most days and have been pleased with my progress. Erika chooses music for me to learn that is challenging but within my range of ability. She gently extends my comfort level and is always so supportive of my endeavor. I have even participated in a couple of recitals via zoom with her studio. I LOVE playing again! Thank you, Erika! Nancy Augusta, GA Learn more about Erika or Contact Erika |
