General Lesson InformationEach lesson is tailored to the individual student's specific goals.
Online lessons provide a professional teacher's insights, experience, and expertise in the convenience of your own home. Online lessons reduce unnecessary travel expenses, stress, and time pressures involved with the complex schedules of busy families. Lessons are conducted through videoconferencing via various platforms, including Zoom, FaceTime, Skype, and Google Hangouts. Students can use a computer (preferred), an iPad, or even an iPhone. |

Technical Requirements
Basic Requirements 1. Internet access 2. Videoconferencing Software: I usually use Zoom, but have also used FaceTime, Skype, and Google Hangout 3. An iPad, iPhone, or computer with a video camera, an internal or external microphone, and system speakers or headphones. NB: If they are available, computers work better than iPads and iPhones. Recommended Requirements 1. A good quality external USB microphone greatly improves the sound quality and overall experience, and headphones will improve the sound quality of any demonstrations I play (but can make it harder to hear your own sound). 2. Please check that your computer recognizes and uses your external microphone and/or headphones before a lesson. Sometimes the computer defaults to internal systems. 3. Please re-start your computer before lessons for optimal performance. Lesson Set-Up Lessons work best in a well-lit room. The main light source should not be directly behind the student (such as a window). The video camera should be set up so that I can see the student's embouchure and left-hand position. The student's music can be set up on a music stand, ideally to the left of the computer screen. Student Initiates Lessons Students log in when it is their lesson time. Please set up for your lesson and warmup prior to your lesson. Be prompt or a few minutes early. I cannot extend your lesson into the next student's lesson time. |
